Today I m back in my home studio out of todays showers, painting Pittville Park. I thought I would continue to share some of processes my paintings go through and today I want to show you how I m handling an acrylic to oil and cold wax process.
Above I have applied layers of thin acrylic paint onto a mount board prepared with an acrylic paint and texture medium this provides body and interest to the piece and seals the surface of the mount board prior to the oil layer. I make sure I m quick to write through these thin layers as they dry in around 2 to 3 mins.
Above I have mixed my family of oil colours. The source colours are around the edge ,the family of colours for the piece are in the centre. I start by mixing the darkest colours to the lightest making sure a little of the previous colour is in each to connect them.
I have then applied the oil layer working from dark to light, keeping my layers thin and preserving some of the layers underneath. In each layer of paint I write to connect myself with the painting.
